Weixin Pay announced a strategic partnership with the Collins Street Precinct to roll out its digital payment service across approximately 300 stores in Melbourne's premier shopping district.
Designed to cater to Chinese tourists and international students, the initiative will elevate the shopping experience in the Collins Street Precinct by enabling Weixin Pay users to make secure, digital payments and earn reward points redeemable for foreign exchange vouchers. Participating merchants will benefit from increased sales as customers use their vouchers toward new purchases.
The partnership was unveiled at the "Weixin Ecosystem Workshop", where Weixin Pay shared new data showing that, thanks to expanded coverage and higher average spending among Chinese users, the total value of offline transactions in Australia has surged 97% compared to 2019, with the average transaction amount rising 62%.
During the opening remarks, Roshena Campbell, Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Melbourne, announced that the city will collaborate with Weixin Pay to expand the program to additional commercial precincts across Melbourne, fostering both economic growth and cultural exchange. "This partnership is an important step forward, aimed at providing seamless and innovative digital payment solutions to serve our international visitors better," Campbell said.
Luke Harris, President of Collins Street Precinct, added, "With these new digital services, we look forward to better understanding and serving Chinese consumers, further solidifying Collins Street's reputation as a world-class shopping destination."
Kee Zhang, Business Development and Operations Director of Weixin Pay Oceania, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting local merchants: "We are dedicated to creating seamless consumption experiences that help Australian businesses connect with Chinese tourists through the Weixin Pay ecosystem. Looking ahead, we plan to expand into more precincts across Australia, enhancing coverage in urban business areas and fostering customer loyalty. We believe this will stimulate tourist spending and contribute to the local economy."
Allan Qiu, Director at Stone Drums who is Weixin Pay ecosystem marketing partner, shared in depth how the Weixin ecosystem helps Australian merchants better serve Chinese tourists to Australia, bringing the audience vivid and practical insights into the Weixin ecosystem.
As the number of Chinese tourists visiting Australia continues to grow, Weixin Pay expects more local merchants to embrace the Weixin ecosystem. By integrating advanced digital payment solutions, businesses can deliver a superior customer experience, improve operational efficiency, and unlock new avenues for growth.
