West Coast Climbing Catalyst Project Report

The West Coast has an aim of increasing participation in sport and recreation opportunities by residents, and in increasing the appeal of the West Coast as a tourism area, particularly in relation to adventure activities. The Sport and Recreation Plan adopted by Council highlights the importance of encouraging recreation using the West Coast's natural assets.

After an Expression of Interest process in 2020, Council engaged consultants and climbers to develop an action plan for increasing rock climbing on the West Coast. The action plan has been developed to identify a range of projects that can be achieved within 5-10 years and will support the following:

1. Increased ability of local participation in climbing

2. Increased Tasmanian visitation to the West Coast for climbing

3. Increase visitor economy revenue/numbers related to climbing.
