  • The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy theme marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week
  • Perth set to host National NAIDOC Week Awards Ceremony on 5 July

Western Australians are invited to explore the rich cultural history of our State over the coming week as the State and the nation celebrate NAIDOC Week 2025.

This year's theme is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, which resonates profoundly as we mark 50 years of NAIDOC Week.

The theme calls upon all Australians to not only honour and pay respects to the achievements of the past, but to actively contribute to shaping a future led by the next generation.

NAIDOC Week was established 50 years ago to preserve and promote Indigenous cultures, languages and traditions.

The week-long festivities began last night with the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre hosting the National NAIDOC Week Awards Ceremony.

The Cook Labor Government is committed to strong and respectful partnerships focused on Closing the Gap priority area to support the diverse Aboriginal cultures and history of our State to achieve lasting benefits for Aboriginal people and the wider community.

As stated by Aboriginal Affairs Minister Don Punch:

"NAIDOC Week is one of the highlights of the year for me as a time for reflection, celebration, and connection.

"It offers us an opportunity to recognise the wisdom, strength, and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Contributions that continue to shape, enrich, and define our shared future.

"It is also a vital opportunity for all Australians, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal alike, to stand in solidarity, to listen deeply, and to amplify Aboriginal voices and stories with genuine respect and purpose.

"NAIDOC Week is not only a celebration of culture, through music, art, language, food, and storytelling, it is a powerful opportunity for connection.

"I encourage Western Australians to get involved with NAIDOC Week and to use this time as an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples."
