Taking a quick look at the weekend so far, abundant tropical moisture has brought heavy rainfall to central and northern Australia and parts of the east coast of New South Wales too. In fact, a significant rain event is brewing and expected to impact multiple states this week. This is being driven by a tropical low over southern NT drawing huge amounts of moisture over the country.
Heavy falls are expected near the low today, and for multiple days ahead, bringing threat to livestock. Humidity dragged south by a crossing cold front extends rain areas and storms into the south and south-east, with potential heavy falls. Rain for the southeast beneficial to soil moisture ahead of autumn planting, giving a boost to summer fodder crops, but the humid conditions could bring downy mildew problems for some.
On Monday, showers and storms clearing the southeast, as heavy falls slingshot back towards the low, though extending into northwest New South Wales. Dry and warm in the south-west, dry also for south-east Queensland.
On Tuesday, a few light showers for the east coast with another trough deepening into the south-east, tapping into that tropical moisture, and bringing a band of showers and storms with possible heavy falls that will be slow to clear during Wednesday.
A strong high in the bight driving settled and dry weather for the south-west, with heavy falls and gusty winds continuing through central and northern parts, and widespread flooding is a real concern that continues into Thursday. Then a trough approaching the east coast increasing showers and hit and miss storms.
On Friday, early indicators drag humidity into southern South Australia, with another potentially very wet weekend.
And that's it for our weekly wrap. We'll see you again next time. Bye for now.
