What's Your WASTE-line This Christmas?

Summer holidays are on their way, and for some of us we're all looking forward to a well-deserved break. For many of us, we will use the time to clear the clutter and do a big summer clean. With that comes more rubbish, and the good news is that Council provides four FREE Kerbside Clean-ups per household each year.

Single-unit dwellings, including houses, townhouses, and duplexes, can receive four free pick-ups annually. A Kerbside Clean-up is ideal for bulky items too big for your regular bin, such as electronic and household goods, white goods and metal appliances, smaller items in boxes or bags, and large green waste like thick branches. Book your free pick-up at www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/kerbsidecleanup.

Remember to use your green FOGO bin for food scraps and garden waste - including fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, bones and grass clippings. Avoid plastic bags, cling wrap, biodegradable bags, tissues or napkins. A summer tip: sprinkle bicarb soda in your kitchen caddy before adding the liner, and occasionally in your green bin to keep it fresh until collection.

Since January, we've collected over 1,600 tonnes per month in FOGO bins, which is fantastic! This green waste is recycled into compost for agriculture and beautification projects. Thank you for helping reduce landfill costs and keep waste charges affordable. For more tips on how to FOGO like a Pro, visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/FOGO-like-a-Pro.

From 23 December 2025 to 2 January 2026, we'll provide an extra recycling bin collection for Christmas wrapping paper, food packaging, glass, and boxes. Simply put both your yellow and red bins out together on your usual red bin collection day during this period. Check your waste calendar for details.
