Where is Labor's economic or jobs policy for Tasmania?

Simon Wood, Liberal Member for Bass

Tasmanians should never forget Labor's record when it comes to the State's economy.

Liberal Member for Bass, Simon Wood said there was absolutely nothing in Labor's so-called 'priorities' pamphlet about jobs, economy, business or industry – because that's not their priority.

"Their only policy when it comes to the Tasmanian economy is to constantly talk it down," Mr Wood said.

"Predictably, Labor had nothing positive to say about recent reports that that our long-term economic plan is working and Tasmania is once again leading the nation on economic performance.

"Nor did they have anything positive to say when Tasmania just last week again recorded a record low unemployment of just 3.8 per cent, and more Tasmanians are now in work than ever before.

"What's Labor's economic management record?

"Last time they were in Government, with the Greens, they trashed the Tasmanian economy.

"Their so-called forest "peace deal" devastated the industry, families and livelihoods, and 10,000 jobs were lost.

"When Labor left government, Tasmania's unemployment level was a massive 7.4 per cent.

"There was no mention of an economic or jobs policy for Tasmania in Ms White's 'priorities' pamphlet, so where is it?

"Ms White spent a long time on local radio earlier this week running down our strong Cabinet team.

"Where is the Shadow Treasurer's properly costed, funded alternative Budget?

"There's a photo of him in the pamphlet – but nothing else.

"Now, with Dr Broad having failed to do the work, Ms White is asking luncheon attendees for ideas.

"The fact is, Ms White cannot outline an alternative economic and jobs policy for Tasmania because Labor simply does not have one."
