Where is money?

Tasmanian Labor
  • Funding for tourism initiatives nowhere to be seen
  • Federal Government promised $13.5m
  • Unspent money from travel vouchers remains a mystery
  • The tourism and hospitality sector continues to wait for the Gutwein Government to release details about where $13.5 million promised in September last year will be spent.

Tasmanian Labor Leader and Shadow Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Rebecca White has called on the State Government to release details about when the money promised for Tasmania will be allocated to projects.

"At a time when many operators and workers in the tourism and hospitality sector are beginning to feel nervous about the end to JobKeeper the last thing they want is more uncertainty about when promised Government funding will flow.

"The Tasmanian Government also needs to detail how much money is left unspent following the full rollout of the Make Yourself at Home travel voucher program.

"The unspent money from the tourism vouchers must be used to help tourism and hospitality operators and workers navigate the next few critical months.

"There is no doubt that once JobKeeper ends in March the effect on workers and operators will have a negative impact.

"The Deloitte report released earlier in January identified that Tasmania was the most vulnerable state to cuts to JobKeeper.

"As school holidays come to an end the amazing support Tasmanians have been able to offer our tourism and hospitality venues will decrease.

"Peter Gutwein needs to explain what has happened to the money and detail when it will start to flow out the door to help those in the tourism and hospitality sector."
