The City of Whittlesea is urgently calling on the State Government for more localised vaccination centres as local infection numbers continue to rapidly rise.
Recent vaccination data released by the Commonwealth has highlighted the alarmingly low vaccination rates in the City of Whittlesea.
Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said the City of Whittlesea has the fifth lowest vaccination rate in the state.
"Our community, local CALD community leaders and our multifaith networks have thrown their support behind the vaccination campaign but we are just not getting the numbers through the doors of the mass vaccination sites. It is clear we need a different approach for our multicultural community," she said.
"We urgently need more local vaccination options especially through the Lalor, Thomastown, Epping Wollert corridor.
"We know our community is having difficulty navigating the booking system for the State-run sites. More localised walk-up options would make it so much easier for our CALD community and other local residents to access a vaccination.
"We recognise the incredible effort of the State and Federal Governments to curb transmission of COVID-19 and boost vaccination rates. This week I have written to the Premier to offer Council's support for a more localised rollout and I urge the State Government to take up the offer.
"We need to act now. Supporting our community to get vaccinated is the path to safely re-opening and getting our kids back into schools, families back together and getting our businesses back on their feet," Ms Wilson said.
