Will Boroondara Still Feel Like Home In 2050?

Big housing changes are coming that will affect the future of Boroondara. Have your say before it's too late.

We support more housing in the right locations in Boroondara. We also want housing to be more affordable. With thoughtful urban planning, we can enable population growth and build neighbourhoods and communities where people feel they belong.

What's happening?

The Victorian Government is making plans to increase housing density around Melbourne's train stations and tram stops. It's doing final consultation on Tranche 1 of its Activity Centres program, sharing draft maps for areas around Hawthorn, Auburn and Glenferrie train stations, and Kew Junction.

The government's consultation covers:

  • building heights
  • development catchment boundaries beyond activity centres
  • important streets, connections and spaces.

However, the plans don't include how they'll support population growth with local infrastructure, new green spaces and expanded community facilities and services.

We're concerned the government's one-size-fits-all approach to growing activity centres is progressing without local vision, local understanding and local voices. The plans allow for higher-scale developments with lower building standards in heritage areas. Communities will have fewer opportunities to participate in planning decisions when these new plans are in place.

The government needs to collaborate with local councils and communities to shape great places and our neighbourhoods' future.

Make your voice heard

This consultation is your last chance to influence Tranche 1 of the Activity Centres program. Review the draft maps at Engage Victoria, share your feedback on the Victorian Government's plans, and help amplify our community's voice.

Have your say by Sunday 19 October. Don't miss out!

When giving your feedback, consider asking the government about:

  • protecting heritage and character
  • local infrastructure to support growing populations
  • preserving and enhancing green spaces
  • community facilities and services needed for thriving neighbourhoods.
