Wilson serious crash - information sought, WA

Major Crash officers are investigating a serious traffic crash that occurred in Wilson on Saturday, 29 December 2018 in which eight people were seriously injured.

Just before 4pm, a stolen white Toyota Hilux utility was travelling north east along Leach Highway when it struck a white Hyundai station wagon that was stationary at a red traffic light on Leach Highway. The Hyundai then struck the rear of a semi-trailer being towed by a Mercedes truck and became wedged under the trailer, WA Police say.

The eight occupants of the Hyundai (6 adults and 2 children), received serious injuries and were conveyed by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital and the Perth Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, a 34-year-old man, received facial injuries and fled the scene. It is believed he boarded a bus on Leach Highway and travelled to Bentley. He was later apprehended by police.

Major Crash officers would like to speak to anyone who saw the crash, or the Toyota Hilux prior to the crash. They would also like to speak to anyone who saw a man with a bloodied face board a bus in the Wilson area.

Anyone with dash cam footage of the area around the above time, or has any information regarding this incident, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
