Surf Coast Shire Council is seeking community input to help shape a Structure Plan which will guide how the town grows and changes during the next 15 years.
The Structure Plan will draw from the vision, principles and ideas in the recently completed Winchelsea Place Plan, which captures what people value most about the town and wish to protect as it grows.
Council's Urban Futures Strategy identifies Winchelsea as a primary location for growth.
Deputy Mayor Tony Phelps: "Our first phase of community engagement is open and we really hope community members take the opportunity to share their thoughts on what matters most to them, and opportunities they see.
"The Place Plan was developed by community members during a series of workshops and lights the way with its vision and principles to protect and reinforce the town's character as it grows. Once complete, the Structure Plan will set out where and how growth will happen.
"We know how passionate people are about Winchelsea. This is their chance to help shape its future."
People can contribute in several ways:
- By visiting www.yoursay.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/WSP and completing the 10-minute survey.
- By dropping a pin on the interactive online map to highlight an issue, opportunity or priority.
- By visiting a community drop-in information session to talk to members of the project team. Upcoming sessions are:
Sunday 25 October, 10am to 1pm at Café La Hoot, 1 Willis Street. The project team will shout a coffee for the first 30 people who have completed the survey and can provide an email survey receipt.
Saturday 31 October, 10am to 1pm, at the IGA.
Sunday 1 November, 9am to 1pm, at the community market.
A Structure Plan Working Group including members representing the community and community organisations will develop the plan, informed by technical advice, ensuring it aligns with the Place Plan vision and principles.
It will also be developed in consultation with key stakeholder groups including landholders, industry sector representatives and government departments and bodies.
