A team from the University of Melbourne has won the Tribunal's inaugural moot competition.
They faced Monash University in last week's grand final, which was judged by a panel comprising the Tribunal's President, Justice Emilios Kyrou AO, Deputy President Kruna Dordevic, and Senior Member Tamara Hamilton-Noy.
In total, 16 teams of law students from 10 universities across Australia took part in the competition:
- Australian Catholic University
- Bond University
- Flinders University
- Monash University
- Queensland University of Technology
- The University of Queensland
- University of Melbourne
- University of New South Wales
- University of Sydney
- University of Tasmania.
Cases in each of the competition's four rounds explored administrative law in realistic scenarios drawn from the Tribunal's jurisdictional areas.
In doing so, the competition gave students the opportunity to learn how practice and procedure in a tribunal setting differs from court proceedings, and hopefully inspired some to consider a career in administrative law.
The Tribunal commends all teams for their preparation, thoughtful submissions and advocacy skills.
We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of future advocates in next year's competition.
