Winter embarrasses himself again

Guy Barnett,Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction

Labor's Dean Winter knows very well that while executive remuneration is a matter for the Hydro Tasmania Board, Tasmania needs to attract and retain highly skilled personnel to manage our critical infrastructure and energy supply.

This is achieved through contractual entitlements commonly used across the country and termination arrangements include all forms of benefits paid or accrued, including personal leave entitlements.

Unfortunately once again, Mr Winter has chosen cheap political point scoring instead of explaining the entire story.

In relation to the contract struck with former CEO, Mr Stephen Davy, this was done a decade ago under the Labor Government. I'm advised that similar provisions contained in that contract have not been used in more recent contracts. A number of the other contracts mentioned by Mr Winter also occurred under the Labor Government.

Mr Albertini resigned for personal reasons, and he received entitlements from Hydro Tasmania in line with his contractual obligations.

Rather than stooping to Mr Winter's level, we will continue to back Hydro Tasmania to continue doing the excellent work it does to generate our state's energy supply, making Tasmania 100 per cent self-sufficient in renewable energy.
