- Expressions of interest process set to explore additional capacity opportunities for Kwinana Bulk Jetty
- Kwinana Bulk Jetty critical to supporting Western Australia's supply chains
- Cook Labor Government committed to creating jobs and diversifying the WA economy
The Cook Labor Government is seeking market interest in opportunities to support additional trade capacity at Kwinana Bulk Jetty, as part of its commitment to growing Western Australia's freight and industrial infrastructure and further strengthen the Western Trade Coast (WTC) as the State's premier industrial area.
The Western Trade Coast contributes up to $20 billion annually to the State economy and supports around 43,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Kwinana Bulk Jetty plays an essential role in supporting Western Australia's supply chains, handling many of the fertiliser products that underpin the State's agricultural sector and facilitating the import of industrial commodities relied upon by businesses and communities across WA.
This Expression of Interest (EOI), to be released on Tuesday, 10 November, will provide government with a greater understanding of the market's appetite and capability to finance, develop, and operate additional infrastructure solutions in the near term that could help alleviate capacity constraints at the Kwinana Bulk Jetty and strengthen supply chain resilience at Kwinana Port.
The EOI intends to test a range of potential near-term solutions and delivery models, while ensuring any future infrastructure aligns with the Westport program and supports further employment, investment, and economic growth across the WTA State Development Area (SDA).
This process builds on the Cook Labor Government's commitment to support trade growth in the WTC, including through the Kwinana Bulk Terminal Redevelopment - a critical enabling project for the Westport program.
The EOI will close on 23 December.
As stated by Ports Minister Stephen Dawson:
"Kwinana Bulk Jetty is a critical piece of State infrastructure that supports the movement of commodities relied on by Western Australian businesses and communities every day.
"The Cook Labor Government is committed to ensuring our port infrastructure remains efficient, reliable, and capable of supporting trade growth.
"This market process will provide valuable information to help government assess opportunities while maintaining alignment with our long-term port planning objectives."
As stated by Treasurer Rita Saffioti:
"As Western Australia's economy continues to grow, it is important that we explore opportunities to ensure our freight infrastructure can continue to meet the needs of industry.
"This process will help us better understand what opportunities may be available to build capacity and improve resilience across the Kwinana Port system."
As stated by State Development Minister David Michael:
"This initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to working with industry to identify practical solutions that support economic development and supply chain resilience.
"The declaration of the Western Trade Coast as a SDA was a critical enabler to identifying this opportunity, underpinning the rapid coordination between government and industry.
"This precinct is a vital artery of Western Australian businesses and communities, and we must ensure it continues to meet the evolving needs of industry and the state into the future."
