Witnesses sought to Sturt Highway crash, South Australia

Police investigating a serious three car crash on the Sturt Highway last night near Blanchetown are seeking witnesses to the collision or anyone that may have seen a silver BMW prior to the crash.

Just before 8.30pm on Saturday 27 July, a silver BMW with a WA registration travelling west on Sturt Highway, collided with the rear of a Ford sedan travelling in the same direction, about 5kms east of Blanchetown

As a result the Ford sedan left the road, but the BMW careered out of control across onto the wrong side of the road, into the path and colliding with, a Mazda ute travelling east. The ute then left the road, rolled and burst into flames.

Miraculously the ute driver, a 42-year-old woman from the Riverland and three young boys in the rear of the ute aged, 10, 7 and 6-years-old, all escaped from the burning vehicle uninjured.

The driver and only occupant of the BMW, a 39-year-old man from Elizabeth however suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The driver of the Ford sedan received minor injuries.

Police investigating the crash are interested to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash or may have noticed the silver BMW with WA registration plates, travelling on the Sturt Highway prior to the collision to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
