A driver has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a head on collision with a truck near the state's southern border yesterday.
About 5.15pm (Thursday 12 March 2026), emergency services were called to the Newell Highway near Browns Road, Tocumwal, about 77km southeast of Deniliquin, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and found that a car and a road train had collided head on.
The driver of the car – a woman aged in her 40s – was trapped in the vehicle and rescued by emergency services before being airlifted to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition,
The driver of the truck – a 29-year-old man – was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have established a crime scene and an investigation into the cause of the crash has commenced.
