Woman critical, man charged with attempted murder in Coonabarabran

A man is due to face court charged with attempted murder after a woman was found critically injured in the state’s Central West this morning, NSW Police say.

About 2am (Thursday 16 August 2018), emergency services were called to a unit on Horsley Drive at Coonabarabran, following reports of an assault.

On arrival, officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District found a 46-year-old woman with a serious head injury.

She was treated by paramedics and taken to Coonabarabran Hospital before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and detectives initiated an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 48-year-old man was arrested at Coonabarabran Police Station about 10.30am.

He has now been charged with attempted murder (Domestic Violence), break and enter dwelling and inflict grievous bodily harm, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic Violence), and two counts of common assault.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court tomorrow (Friday 17 August 2018).
