Woman dies after Point Cook hit-run

A 53-year-old woman has died following an alleged hit-run collision in Point Cook on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision between a Holden Commodore and Volkswagen Golf at the intersection of Dunnings Road and Boardwalk Boulevard about 11pm.

It's alleged the driver of the Holden failed to stop before fleeing on foot while the passenger remained at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a Point Cook woman, was taken to hospital where she died today.

Police arrested the alleged driver of the Holden a short time later at his Point Cook address.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged the 25-year-old man with negligently causing serious injury, failing to stop and render assistance and other traffic offences.

Investigations in relation to the incident remain ongoing.

Investigators are asking anyone that may have been travelling along Dunnings Road prior to the collision and observed the purple Holden Commodore is urged to come forward.
