Woman dies and man rescued after car crashes into creek near Port Macquarie, NSW

A woman has died and a man has been taken to hospital after a car has lost control and crashed into a creek on the state’s Mid North Coast this morning, NSW Police say.

At 8.15am (Friday 14 September 2018) officers from Mid North Coast Police District responded to reports of people trapped in a car in Stoney Creek, Pembrooke.

Three bystanders entered the water and attempted to free the occupants of the vehicle.

The male driver was pulled from the water and has been taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with minor injuries.

His female passenger was treated at the scene, but died.

The woman is yet to be formally identified.

The road remains closed as officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit examine the scene.
