Woman dies following Dandenong South crash

A woman has died following a two-car collision in Dandenong South earlier this evening, Victoria Police say.

Police believe the woman was travelling south on the South Gippsland Highway when she drove through the intersection at Pound Road just before 5.30pm.

As she travelled through the intersection the front of her Toyota sedan struck another vehicle travelling west on Pound Road, intending to turn right onto the highway.

After the initial collision the woman’s car was pushed into a traffic-light pole, spinning around and travelling across all north-bound lanes of the highway before coming to rest on the grass shoulder.

The woman, a 51-year-old from Clyde North, died at the scene.

A female passenger in the woman’s car was conveyed to a Melbourne hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The four occupants of the car travelling on Pound Road were not injured.

Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
