A woman has thanked police after she was reunited with a family heirloom following an arrest of a man in Bathurst earlier this month, NSW Police say.

On Sunday 10 December 2017, police from Chifley Highway Patrol arrested a man on Bentinck Street, Bathurst, for alleged drug and property offences. Certain items were seized.

A 24-year-old man was charged with supply prohibited drug indictable quantity and three counts of goods in custody and will face Bathurst Local Court on Monday 19 February 2017.

Police will allege in court that a house in Kelso was broken into in 2014 and several items were stolen, including an engraved silver fob watch belonging to the householder’s great-grandmother.

After the arrest earlier this month, officers made extensive inquiries to locate the owner of the watch.

Chifley Duty Officer Acting Inspector Paul McCann said the householder, Judy, was thrilled when she had her family’s watch returned yesterday (Tuesday 12 December 2017).

"When Judy came into Bathurst Police Station, she was overjoyed when we presented the watch to her," he said.

"She thanked officers and said she was extremely appreciative of the hard work we do.

"It’s always great to see a happy result for a member of the public."

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to a break and enter incident to call Crime Stoppers.
