Woman's ear lobe bitten off during domestic violence incident at Lake Illawarra

A man will face court today charged with a range of domestic violence offences after allegedly biting part of a woman's ear off.

Shortly after midnight yesterday (Sunday 12 January 2020) an altercation occurred between a man and woman at a home in Mount Warrigal.

Police will allege in court the man grabbed the woman by her throat before pushing her into the lounge.

A short time later, the man allegedly choked the woman and bit her right ear lobe, which was partially severed as a result.

The woman drove herself to Shellharbour Hospital where police were notified.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were called to the hospital before attending a home in Mount Warrigal, where they located and seized an imitation firearm.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with malicious damage, two counts of strangulation, assault occassioning actual bodily harm, inflict grievous bodily harm with intent and possess prohibited firearm.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 13 January 2020).
