Woman with stolen vehicle, goods arrested in THWP

Police have arrested and charged a woman from Victoria after allegedly finding her in a stolen vehicle that contained a number of stolen items.

Around 12pm today, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers from Cootamundra responded to reports of a damaged vehicle stopped on the Hume Highway, Mundarlo.

Police checks revealed that the vehicle was stolen from Victoria and the number plates belonged to a different vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers located several Victorian number plates, purses, handbags, computers, cameras and other items, allegedly stolen with the vehicle during a break, enter and steal in Victoria.

Police arrested the 24-year-old woman from South Yarra, Victoria and conveyed her to Gundagai Police Station where she was charged with receiving property stolen outside of NSW, Goods in custody (3), learner not accompanied by driver, learner not display L plates and take and drive conveyance without consent of the owner.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on 30 May 2016.

Traffic & Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, said that while officers are focussed on road safety, their presence on our roads detects a vast array of other offences.

"Officers are there to save lives, but we are also there to deter, detect, and prosecute those that are using our highways to commit crime.

"No matter where criminal activity occurs in NSW, our officers are well equipped to identify and prevent criminal activity on our roads," Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
