More than 20 Geelong women have been recognised for their extraordinary contributions by being named as finalists in this year's Women in Community Life Awards.
In their ninth year, the awards acknowledge the outstanding achievements of women* in contributing to a fairer, more equitable community and advancing gender equality in the Geelong region.
The awards are a part of the City's International Women's Day celebrations, and this year's theme is Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.
This year's awards will be presented in seven categories at 6:00pm on Thursday 10 March 2022 and will feature a question-and-answer session with special guest ABC journalist Annabel Crabb.
Award categories for 2022 are:
- First Nations Woman in Community Life – sponsored by Christine Couzens, MP
- Women in Community Life for Climate Action – Disaster and Resilience – sponsored by Women's Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West;
- Women in Community Life for Disability Rights – sponsored by Barwon Health
- Women in Community Life for Education – sponsored by Soroptimist International of Geelong
- Women in Community Life for Human Rights – sponsored by Zonta Club of Geelong
- Women in Community Life for Leadership in Times of Crisis - sponsored by Committee for Geelong
- Women in Community Life for Leadership in Women's Health – sponsored by Jean Hailes for Women's Health.
To be eligible for the awards, the nominee must be a woman* living or working in the Greater Geelong region.
Award winners will be selected by a panel made up of Women in Community Life Advisory Committee members, as well as award sponsors and community representatives.
The Women in Community Life awards commenced in 2014 and continue to attract significant interest across the region.
The fundamental drivers of the awards are to be accessible to all and to acknowledge the significant contributions women make at all levels in our region.
Due to COVID-19, this year's Women in Community Life Awards will be held virtually.
