Parents, coaches and community sporting leaders are invited to hear from a panel of inspiring speakers at Nillumbik's Women in Sport Breakfast, exploring this year's theme, "Cheering Them On: The Role of Parents in Sport."

Supported by Bendigo Community Bank Diamond Creek, Eltham and Hurstbridge, the breakfast will bring together athletes, advocates and community leaders to discuss how parents and supportive sporting environments can help girls and young women build confidence, stay active and achieve their goals both on and off the field.

Richmond AFLW co-captain Gabby Seymour is keynote speaker at the event and will share her journey from international volleyball to elite Australian Rules football. Beyond her success on the field, Seymour has been a strong advocate for the advancement of women's sport, helping secure landmark improvements for AFLW players through her work with the AFL Players' Association.

Joining Seymour on the panel will be local sporting and community leaders whose experiences highlight the many ways adults can positively influence young people's participation in sport.

Elite gymnast, coach and youth advocate Tahlia Edmonds will share her story of resilience after overcoming paralysis as a child to become a nationally ranked athlete. Through her advocacy work, Edmonds encourages young women to challenge barriers and pursue their ambitions with confidence.

Jaimie Motta, Secretary of Diamond Creek Baseball Club, will provide insight into the role parents, volunteers and sporting clubs play in creating welcoming, inclusive environments where young people can develop friendships, confidence and a lifelong connection to sport.

Denise Chang-Faux, Member Conduct and Child Safety Officer at Diamond Valley Basketball Association, will discuss the importance of child safety, wellbeing and positive sporting cultures that support young people and their families.

Mayor Cr Naomi Joiner said the breakfast would provide valuable insights for anyone supporting children and young people in sport.

"From the sidelines to the committee, parents and volunteers play an important role in shaping positive sporting experiences for our young people,"

"This event will highlight how encouragement, inclusion and strong role models can help girls and young women participate, succeed and remain connected to sport throughout their lives."
