Working for you

We’re getting on with the job and delivering on our plan.

This includes delivering tax relief for 10 million Australians. We believe you should keep more of what you earn.

We’ve delivered practical help for our drought-affected farmers.

We’ve taken action to lower electricity, child care and medical costs.

We’re taking tough action against law-breaking unions. We’re also stopping activists from threatening farming families.

We’re building congestion busting infrastructure. This will create jobs and get you home to your family sooner.

To keep Australians safe, we are taking action against returning foreign fighters and those who seek to harm children.

And we’re getting on with making sure we actually recycle plastic waste rather than shipping it overseas or dumping it in landfill.

We will continue to back you and your family. This means working to deliver a stronger economy, lower taxes, better infrastructure and guaranteed services.

TAX RELIEF

Our tax relief plan passed parliament. Around 10 million taxpayers are now getting tax relief of up to $1,080 for a single income family or up to $3,160 for dual income families.

When our plan is fully implemented, 94% of taxpayers will pay no more than 30 cents in the dollar.

SUPPORTING FARMERS

We’re backing our farmers by establishing the $5 billion Future Drought Fund.

This will improve the resilience and preparedness of rural and regional communities.

PROTECTING FARMING FAMILIES

Australian farmers, their families and agri-businesses have a right to feel safe. New laws have passed to tackle those who incite trespassing on agricultural land.

MORE JOBS

In the three months from May, employment has increased by 84,000.

The Government is committed to 1.25 million more jobs over five years – including 250,000 jobs for young Australians.

The Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector is being reformed and we’re creating an extra 80,000 apprenticeships.

TACKLING UNION LAWLESSNESS

We’ve introduced legislation to give courts more power to de-register lawbreaking unions and officials.

This lawlessness can increase the cost of building hospitals, schools and roads by up to 30% – a cost worn by all Australians.

RECORD INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT

160 major projects are under construction. A further 120 are in planning.

Our $100 billion, 10-year infrastructure pipeline will bust congestion and boost the economy for you and your family.

INSTANT ASSET WRITE-OFF

The instant asset write-off has been extended.

This encourages your small or medium business to invest in new equipment and machinery (worth up to $30,000).

SUPPORTING SENIORS

We’ve cut deeming rates, meaning around 1 million Australians will benefit from a boost to pension and welfare payments.

MORE AFFORDABLE AGED CARE

We’re also lowering fees for aged care delivered to your home.

From July 1, a new basic daily fee came into effect, reducing fees by up to $400 a year.

AFFORDABLE MEDICINES

New PBS medicines are available to treat lung cancer, brain tumours, leukaemia, inflammatory diseases, cystic fibrosis and depression.

Your family could save many thousands of dollars a year.

Since 2013, the Government has listed more than 2,100 medicines on the PBS.

CHEAPER DOCTOR VISITS

180 GP services under Medicare started receiving higher rebates from July 1, lowering costs for you and your family. This includes health assessments, mental health and after-hours care.

BETTER HEALTH CARE

New projects are being delivered for your family under the Community Health and Hospitals Program.

Services include cancer treatment, rural health and hospital infrastructure, drug and alcohol treatment, chronic disease management and mental health.

NDIS

Queensland has now also signed on to a full scheme agreement for the NDIS, joining six other states and territories.

The NDIS will support around 500,000 Australians over the next five years.

MORE AFFORDABLE ELECTRICITY

Family and business power bills are being reduced. From July 1, electricity prices have been capped for nearly 800,000 customers on standing offers in south-east Queensland, NSW and SA.

MORE POWER FOR CONSUMERS

New Consumer Data Right laws will help you to compare and switch home loans and credit cards, along with energy, phone and internet companies.

PROTECTING CHILDREN

New legislation has been introduced to combat the sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

FIGHTING TERROR

We’ve introduced legislation to keep terrorists in jail.

This includes a presumption against bail and parole for terrorists and their sympathisers.

New laws are dealing with returning foreign fighters.

SECURE BORDERS

New laws toughening the character test will protect the community from non-citizens convicted of violent crimes.

We are working to repeal the ‘Medevac’ legislation, which weakens border security.

KEEPING AUSTRALIANS SAFE

New funding for ASIO and Home Affairs will strengthen law enforcement against outlaw motorcycle gangs, illegal firearms and drugs.

This is on top of a $3 billion investment in cutting-edge equipment for Australia’s Special Forces.

PROTECTING SUPERANNUATION

New rules protect your super. These include capping fees on low balance accounts and banning exit fees.

We are also requiring the transfer of low balance and inactive accounts to the ATO, so they can be consolidated into active accounts.

CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

We are delivering a cleaner environment.

Work is continuing on getting more and cheaper electricity through Snowy 2.0.

Australia is on track to meet and beat our 2020 Kyoto emission reduction targets by 367 million tonnes.

Australia will meet our 2030 targets under the Government’s $3.5 billion Climate Solutions Plan.

SUPPORTING INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS

The Government is engaging with Indigenous leaders on the best way forward to recognise Indigenous Australians in the Constitution.

Ken Wyatt became Australia’s first Aboriginal Minister for Indigenous Australians.

Ken will work to address the challenges of education, health and community safety.

2032 OLYMPIC GAMES

We have committed up to $10 million for south-east Queensland’s Olympic bid.

HELP FOR SCHOOLS

Applications for the Our Local Schools Community Fund opened on 25 July.

COMMUNITIES ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM

The Communities Environment Program opened on 5 August. This funds projects to enhance local environments.

The Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022 has been endorsed.

We have committed $328 million for prevention and better frontline services.

ONLINE SAFETY

At the G20 in June, global leaders backed Australia’s call for digital platforms to do more to stop terrorist and violent extremist content being shared online.

NBN

In July, NBN Co passed a milestone with over 10 million homes and businesses connected.

AFFORDABLE AND RELIABLE GAS

New measures will secure gas supplies for use in Australia. These include options for a national gas reservation scheme and more transparency.

PROTECTING KAKADU

We are investing $216 million to promote and preserve Kakadu National Park.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed with the NT, Traditional Owners and Energy Resources Australia.

SUPPORTING OUR PACIFIC NEIGHBOURS

Our new $2 billion Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific is supporting vital infrastructure in Pacific island countries and Timor-Leste.

RECYCLING PLASTIC WASTE

We’re making new investments in our domestic recycling industry and working with states to ban the export of waste plastic, paper, glass and tyres.
