SHARE's vision is a world where everyone can enjoy excellent sexual health, where new HIV infections are eliminated and in which people with HIV live long and live well. They believe the learning gained from their work will have important implications for other clinical conditions, and they have also published important research into the impact of COVID-19 on minoritised communities.
Supporting all their research is their commitment to working in partnership with local people to gain deep understanding of their lived experiences. A key element of this partnership is SHARE's remunerated local community advisory board. The board provides input, and defines and challenges the design, development, implementation, analysis, and dissemination of their research.
Dr Vanessa Apea, Research Lead for Sexual Health, Barts Health NHS Trust, said: "Our community board underpins the SHARE research agenda. We work with local people to hear and understand their personal experiences and advise on the direction that research should take. This collaboration ensures that SHARE's work is always relevant to the communities we serve and that our recommendations have the greatest impact."
