The Northern Territory's talented apprentices, trainees and students are about to ply their trades in the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition.

Students from a range of professions including baking, cookery, hairdressing, beauty therapy, primary industries, carpentry and electrotechnology will take part in the competition.

Each category will hold their competition between now and November, with the winners shortlisted to compete in the national event in 2023.

Registrations are now open to all eligible students in the Northern Territory and some competitions have commenced. The NT regional competitions are coordinated by the Industry Skills Advisory Council with support from the Northern Territory Government.

WorldSkills Australia is a national, not-for-profit organisation that enables students to showcase their trade and talents through skills-based competitions aligned to National Training Packages, Apprenticeships Australia and Jobs Australia schemes.

The national championship is Australia's biggest vocational education and excellence competition. WorldSkills Australia has been contributing to Australia's sustainable economic prosperity through the development, recognition and promotion of skills excellence since 1981.

Quotes from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade's General Manager, Business and Workforce, Cathy White:

"Worldskills helps raise the profile and showcase the critical role Vocational Education and Training (VET) plays in delivering a skilled and capable Australian Workforce.

Last year Alice Springs local Ella Adami won the Silver Medal for Beauty Therapy at the National Championships in Perth.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Territory VET students to shine on a local, national and global scale, whilst also developing and honing their skills."

Quote from CEO of Industry Skills Advisory Council NT, Amelia Nuku:

"The WorldSkills competition offers apprentices, trainees and students from across the Territory a chance to show the skills they have learned in a fun but competitive environment.

"WorldSkills hopes to create a learning environment where the entrants can pick up new skills from their fellow entrants.

"Registrations remain open for the remainder of the events."
