Wounding charge, Mooloolaba

A man has been charged following an altercation between a large group of people in Mooloolaba last night during which a man was allegedly stabbed.

It will be alleged around 10pm a 27-year-old Mooloolaba man was walking along River Esplanade before becoming involved in a verbal exchange with a group of people near Hancock Street.

A physical altercation broke out between two men and the 27-year-old man who subsequently sustained a stab wound to his leg.

The victim then walked to a local Police Beat where he was assisted by officers before being transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Police attended the scene and pursued a man on foot to a motel on Brisbane Road before Dog Squad was deployed and located him hiding in a carport on Smith Street.

A 21-year-old Parreara man was taken into custody and charged with one count of wounding in a public place whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and obstruct police.

He was due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning (May 24).
