Yakamia bushfire - information sought

Albany Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a large bushfire in Yakamia yesterday, 13 February 2019.

About 1.30pm, Police and Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called to the fire located in bushland off Range Road near Hudson Road. The fire quickly escalated and had the potential to destroy nearby homes along Wicket Park and Callistemon View. The fire burnt approximately eight hectares of bushland.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and may have been started by a stolen vehicle located within the fire ground. The vehicle, a beige 2007 model Holden Captiva wagon was stolen from a shopping centre located on Albany Highway, Albany on Wednesday, 13 February 2019.

Detectives are urging anyone who saw any suspicious activity, persons or vehicles or who has any dash cam footage of the area around the time of the fires is asked to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information that leads to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of an arsonist.
