Cr Stephen Jolly was last night elected to extend his term as the city's Mayor. Cr Sharon Harrison was elected to support in the role of Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Jolly was first elected to serve our community in 2004, and following the 2024 Council elections, was elected as Mayor.
"It is an honour to continue to serve as the Mayor for the City of Yarra", said Cr Jolly on being elected.
"Next year is such an important year. Residents and businesses can continue to expect a Council to that listens to their priorities and delivers on them," he said.
"We've signed on to 44,000 new dwellings and if we don't advocate for the social infrastructure to match it, we will turn into a middle-class ghetto.
"Politically, it is our community that gives us strength and that is something we will continue to draw on in the lead up to the State Election," he said.
Newly elected Deputy Mayor, Cr Sharon Harrison was first elected at last year's Council elections to serve the Boulevard Ward, which includes Burnley and eastern parts of Richmond and Abbotsford. Cr Harrison has lived in Yarra for 12 years with her family and said she was committed to Yarra's community vision.
"Yarra is a vibrant, safe and inclusive community. We celebrate and embrace our diversity and connection to each other, she said.
"I have a firm commitment to access and inclusion, particularly for disability access."
