Yarra gets back in business and into groove

Live entertainment will get a boost this summer as part of a package of new initiatives to support local business and Yarra's economic recovery.

The package, delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government through its Metropolitan Partnerships Development Fund, will support a number of initiatives across the City of Yarra including an exciting new pop-up outdoor music series along Brunswick Street to help reinvigorate and energise this important precinct in a COVID-safe environment.

The initiative – See Northside – will begin Friday 26 November and gives local and emerging artists a great opportunity to showcase their talent while helping to create a rich and vibrant atmosphere for local residents and visitors.

Yarra Mayor, Cr Gabrielle de Vietri, said Council was excited to bring this package of new initiatives to the municipality over the coming months and help support local businesses, musicians and artists.

"Our unique and lively precincts are what make Yarra such a beloved part of Melbourne," said Cr de Vietri.

"The rich culture and atmosphere of our precincts are why locals love to live here and visitors come here again and again."

"We have the best arts and entertainment in the world on our doorstep and as restrictions ease and we begin to re-open, we will be supporting local business and our arts community to ensure they have the opportunity to rebound and thrive this summer."

Other measures in the package include:

  • a new digital campaign supporting local business in Nicholson Village
  • a special arts and culture event for younger people to be held in early 2022
  • a new music and entertainment event for Richmond's Swan Street in 2022

Yarra Mayor, Cr de Vietri, said these initiatives build on Council's existing economic development and recovery programs, including the successful #RediscoverYarra campaign and Precinct Recovery Grants, and demonstrate State and local government working together to support local business and on-the-ground economic recovery.

More details about these exciting new initiatives will be revealed in the weeks to come.
