Yarra Libraries winner at LGpro Awards for Excellence

Yarra Libraries has been recognised at last night's LGpro Awards for Excellence, winning the Service Delivery Initiative category for our Open Library project.

The LGpro Awards for Excellence are held annually to recognise "the outstanding work being undertaken and delivered by individuals and teams working in Local Government in Victoria".

Yarra's Open Library initiative began in 2021 to facilitate greater access to library resources outside of typical staffing hours.

By attending a simple induction program members of the community can upgrade their library membership to gain access to extended hours of entry for Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library and Richmond Library.

Yarra Mayor Claudia Nguyen said the award was recognition of the hard work of Yarra's dedicated libraries staff.

"Our libraries team are in direct conversation with their community every day. And we're proud to use that opportunity to deliver programs that reflect the community's needs," she said.

"On behalf of those staff and the City of Yarra we'd like to thank the LGpro Awards for Excellence their recognition in this category."

Since the program began over 11,000 members of the community have accessed library resources during un-serviced hours. Plans are currently underway to expand the program to other Yarra Libraries branches.

Open Library extended hours are from 8am to 10pm on most days of the week, including public holidays. If you want to learn more about the Open Library program, click here.
