Young child and father bitten by dog at Fairfield

A young girl has undergone surgery after being attacked by a dog in Sydney's south-west this morning.

Just after 11am (Saturday 7 September 2019), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command responded to reports a man and his daughter had been bitten by a dog while walking along Barbara Street, Fairfield.

Police arrived to find a four-year-old girl with wounds to her leg, while her 44-year-old father had been bitten on the buttocks.

NSW Ambulance paramedics took the girl to The Children's Hospital at Westmead, where she has undergone surgery and is believed to be in a stable condition.

The dog was located nearby and contained by police before being collected by council rangers.
