Youth Area To Kickstart Harrison Park Enhancements

Shellharbour City Council is moving ahead with an exciting project to revitalise Harrison Park in the City Centre, creating a new active and youth-focused space.

The project features a multi-use sports half court, outdoor table tennis, amenities block, water station, accessible ramps, pathways, social seating, landscaping and lighting.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said the project reflects Council's commitment to creating inclusive, engaging spaces for young people.

"We're excited to see Harrison Park transform into a dynamic space where young people can connect, play and relax," Mayor Homer said.

The project marks the first implementation stage of the broader Harrison Park Master Plan, which aims to enhance the park's role as a central precinct for recreation and community life.

Other projects planned for Harrison Park as part of the Master Plan includes a Skate Park, new Play Space, Informal Stage with Terrace Seating, upgrades to the Memorial Space, Picnic Areas and Fitness Stations.

"We're also thrilled to see this milestone stage of the Harrison Park Master Plan now becoming a reality."

"Harrison Park is a prime location in the heart of the City, and our vision is for it to become a key destination and focal point for community activities."

Works on the Youth Area are beginning on Wednesday 5 November and take up to three months to complete. The court area will occupy a space at the southern end of the park near the Youth Centre on Cygnet Avenue.

The Youth Area was shaped by extensive community consultation, particularly with young people aged 12-24, whose feedback helped inform the design.
