Flood impacts have brought forward a temporary closure on sections of the Yuelarbah walking track so upgrades and maintenance works on walking tracks and mountain bike trails can be done to improve access and safety for all visitors.
Yuelarbah walking track is a great day walk within the popular Glenrock State Conservation Area which is visited by more than one million people each year.
Expert advice has recommended track sections below Leichardt's lookout affected by flood damage, including land slips and pot holing in historic mining areas, are closed to allow these areas to dry and repair works to be completed.
Scheduled improvement work in the same area will involve upgrading a dilapidated section of the Yuelarbah Walking Track to address erosion, environmental and safety concerns and will include replacement of an elevated walking deck and new staircase.
During this work the track will remain open to Leichhardt's Lookout with a detour in place from the lookout via Yuelarbah Management Trail to Burwood Beach. Works in this area are expected to be completed by August 2021.
Essential maintenance work will also be carried out on the elevated walkway from Yuelarbah car park and the pedestrian bridge over Flaggy Creek.
This work will require the intermittent closures of the track from the car park on Burwood Road to Flaggy Creek pedestrian suspension bridge between April and July 2021. During these works a detour will be in place via Yuelarbah Management Trail from the car park to Flaggy Creek.
Mountain bike riders are advised the single-track network has been impacted by rain and flood activity. The network is dry weather only and some tracks remain too wet to ride while others have sustained damage. Some tracks will be re-opened, weather permitting, from Friday 2 April while others will remain closed until they have dried, or repairs are completed.
