$100M Boost Sparks New Era for Bankstown TAFE

NSW Gov

The Minns Labor Government is continuing to deliver on its record investment in TAFE NSW, by today announcing the opening TAFE NSW Bankstown City, a brand-new campus in the heart of Bankstown CBD.

Today's official opening marks a major milestone following the closure of the former TAFE NSW Bankstown campus in late 2025, which will be the site of a new, $2 billion Bankstown Hospital, the largest capital works investment in a public hospital in the state's history.

The move means Bankstown is not losing training capacity, it is gaining both a new hospital and a modernised TAFE campus.

Importantly, the new campus strengthens the pipeline of skilled workers who will support growing industries across the region, including healthcare, construction and community services.

Co-located with Western Sydney University, this new campus delivers state of the art learning enviornments designed to mirror real workplaces.

Students will gain hands on experience in simulated healthcare and disability support facilities, modern hair and beauty salons, digital learning studios, and dedicated student support hubs, ensuring they are job-ready from the moment they complete their studies.

As part of the $100 million investment, the Minns Labor Govenrment has spent $30 million upgrading TAFE NSW Padstow with a brand new animal studies and early childhood education and care centres, two sectors facing strong workforce demand.

This investment is part of the Minns Labor Government's record $3.4 billion in TAFE NSW and skills funding in the 2025-26 Budget which includes:

  • $40.2 million over two years towards fee free apprenticeships and traineeships
  • $13.8 million Construction Workforce Package
  • $121 million to repair TAFE NSW campuses across the state
  • $78 million to continue converting eligible teachers from casual to permament roles.

Premier Chris Minns said:

"We've taken a practical approach in Bankstown, relocating TAFE into a modern CBD campus so we can deliver the new hospital the community needs, without reducing local training opportunities.

"This ensures students continue to access quality education close to home, while we get on with building critical health infrastructure for South-West Sydney."

Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education, Steve Whan said:

"Under the Minns Labor Government, TAFE NSW has been brought back to the heart of the vocational education and training sector.

"TAFE NSW Bankstown City puts students where the jobs are, with industry-aligned training in the heart of the CBD.

"This is just more proof of the Minns Labor Government's commitment to rebuilding TAFE NSW as the strong and stable public provider of vocational skills training. This investment is a win for students, employers and communities in Southwest Sydney."

Member for Bankstown, Jihad Dib MP said:

"TAFE NSW has trained generations of people in the Bankstown area, and this new campus ensures that legacy continues in the heart of our city.

"With the TAFE and university campus alongside the new Bankstown Hospital, I'm excited by the real synergy of study and job opportunities this will create".

Member for East Hills, Kylie Wilkinson MP said:

"The Minns Labor Government's investment in TAFE NSW Padstow ensures students have access to purpose-built, industry aligned training facilities in two sectors where skilled workers are in high demand.

"This facility was neglected by the former Liberal National government and it's great to see it come alive once again.

"By repurposing unused buildings into modern learning spaces, our government is strengthening local training delivery and supporting better outcomes for students and the community."
