Our Time to Think program has reached an important milestone, supporting its 100th patient to safely transition from hospital to short-term care.
Launched in May this year, Time to Think provides older people with a temporary place in an aged care home following a hospital stay. The program gives patients, families and carers valuable breathing space to consider long-term aged care options - without the pressure of making big decisions while in an acute hospital bed.
The program is continuing to grow, with an additional 11 beds added this week, bringing the total to 53. More beds will be made available in the coming months.
Backed by a $9.9 million State Government investment, Time to Think is helping strengthen discharge pathways by:
- Providing more options for older people leaving hospital
- Reducing pressure on busy emergency departments and wards
- Ensuring hospital beds are available for patients needing acute care most.
This is a strong example of how we are driving practical reforms to ease pressure on our hospitals while ensuring older Western Australians are treated with dignity, respect and choice.
