12 Days of Busking

On the first day of Christmas, Council gave to me … easy and free busking in the Benalla CBD.

While busking has been made free for the whole of December, Benalla Rural City Council has announced instant permits via a QR code, to be launched just in time for 12 days of Christmas Busking.

With busking locations spotted around the CBD, Benalla Rural City Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn, said street performers can scan a QR code displayed in the window of businesses who have agreed to have buskers perform in front of their shop. All they have to do is fill in their details, agree to terms and conditions and receive instant permit approval.

"By introducing instant permits, we are making it quicker and easier for performers to hit the streets and start performing.

"We have traditionally waived the permit fees for buskers in December and this year have decided to go one step further to remove barriers for potential buskers.

"Along with the Christmas decorations, point of sale Christmas flags, the shop window dressing competition and various events Council is supporting, we hope to help spread the Christmas cheer in Benalla this year," Cr Hearn said.

Anyone who doesn't have a mobile device to scan the QR codes can fill in a paper form at the Benalla Rural City Council Customer Service Centre.
