16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

The City of Boroondara is participating in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from 25 November to 10 December. This worldwide campaign aims to create awareness, facilitate conversations, and challenge issues around gendered violence and inequality.

In Victoria, the 16 Days of Activism campaign will focus on the theme 'Respect Is'.

Choosing to lead with respect in our relationships, workplaces, schools, universities and homes can prevent family violence and violence against women.

In the year ending June 2022, a total of 1,020 family violence incidents were reported in Boroondara, equivalent to 606 per 100,000 population*. Council is committed to working with Victoria Police and external agencies to prevent family violence and stand together with the community on this important issue.

In partnership with EDVOS and Swinburne University of Technology, we will deliver bystander training to student leaders in our community. Leaders will learn about respectful relationships and challenge attitudes and behaviours that contribute to violence against women.
