Central Goldfields Shire Council work continues unseen.

As a local councillor, I know that much of Council's most important work can go unnoticed. Yet it can be so vital for the safety of residents, especially in the smaller areas outside of our towns where over 1300km of roads must be maintained, along with their drainage and signage.

Our teams are also continually expanding our footpath network to make it easier to get around, and every school crossing is run by Council.

Waste management is another big part of what we do. From recycling and manufacturing compost to the sorting and safe shipping of materials collected like batteries, e-waste, oil and many other types of material.

This is so important for the health of our environment now and in the future.

Our wellbeing also benefits from the many parks, gardens, playgrounds and tree-lined streetscapes across our Shire. Play equipment must also be maintained, toilet blocks clean and working properly at all times, overhead branches monitored for safety – and at the moment, cleaning up all of those leaves to keep our drains clear!

And there are so many more services provided – 36 key areas in fact, all directly for the benefit of our whole community. The rates you pay to the Council are essential for funding all of these, so this money comes back directly to our community.

While it's easy to overlook, your Council's work is all around you, continually shaping our local environment in practical and powerful ways every day.
