The bells will ring for the first time next year at 19 new schools in communities that need them most - welcoming thousands of kids for Term 1.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll today joined member for Yan Yean Lauran Kathage to visit Wallan's brand new Muyan Primary School, where up to 525 students will attend from prep to grade 6.
The school will help meet increasing enrolment demand from a growing local population and give local students a high-quality education close to home.
The new school includes an administration and library building with spaces for art, science and food technology, plus two learning neighbourhoods, a community hub, hard courts and a sports field.
Neil O'Sullivan, the foundation principal of Muyan Primary School, joined the Education Minister on a tour of the new school today with some of the students starting next year. Mr O'Sullivan has more than 20 years' experience in education and has been principal of two government primary schools.
A new kindergarten will also open at the school in Term 1, 2026, with two kindergarten rooms. Every Victorian primary school that has opened since 2021 has a kindergarten on-site or right nearby, making drop-off and pick-up easier for families and helping children make a smoother transition into primary school when they start.
Muyan Primary School is one of 100 new schools that have been built as part of the Government's 100 new schools initiative, and one of 19 that will be opening from Term 1, next year.
We are building on our record-breaking investment in school infrastructure delivering $18.5 billion for 123
new government schools and more than 2,300 upgrades- creating over 92,000 extra places for growing
communities.
