20-year vision for LGA: Planning statement approved

The Wagga Wagga Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS), which will strengthen and guide future planning and provide an integrated approach to growth and development in the Local Government Area, was adopted by Council tonight.

Minor adjustments were made to the draft LSPS which was placed on public exhibition for community feedback during a six-week period late last year. A total of 74 submissions were received.

Council carried out community engagement in the LGA's villages, held community and stakeholder information sessions, conducted an online youth survey and liaised with the business community to collect feedback.

The LSPS is a State Government requirement under legislative changes introduced in March 2018. As part of these changes, all NSW councils are required to prepare a LSPS setting out the 20-year vision for land use planning.

Signage application fee waived

Council has endorsed waiving a Development Application fee to enable a North Wagga Wagga community group to retain signage in the area.

The $285 fee waiver was put to Council tonight in a Mayoral Minute. The Mayor Cr Greg Conkey has the ability to exercise, in cases of necessity, the policy-making functions of the governing body of the council between meetings of the Council.

This function was exercised on 21 December 2020 and being the authorisation of a Development Application to enable signage in North Wagga Wagga to be retained. The protest signs were erected by the community group in response to an important local issue, and the fee was accordingly waived to ensure there was a voice for that community group, Cr Conkey said.
