Applications are now open for the Georges River Artist in Residence Program for 2027–2028.
Georges River Council's Artist in Residence Program supports artists working across a range of art forms and at different career stages. Applications are open to local, national and international artists, with residencies available for period of one to three months.
Established in 2018, the program has supported almost 40 artists have completed their residencies. It provides valuable opportunities for artists to develop their creative practices while contributing to Council's cultural programs through community engagement, workshops, and exhibitions.
Artists are based at the Carss Park Artist's Cottage. This peaceful and inspiring studio offers accommodation for one artist. Overlooking the Georges River, the cottage provides a special place for professional and creative growth.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "The Artist in Residence Program supports artists by giving them time, space, and inspiration to develop their work."
"It also helps build strong connections with the local community," Mayor Borg said.
"The program plays a key role in boosting Georges River's cultural scene. It also supports a lively and varied creative sector."
The program has showcased artists in various mediums. These include writing, painting, collage, dance, music, animation, and photography. Past residents found inspiration from the nearby water, natural materials, and sounds of the landscape.
Musician, composer, and teacher Meredith Connie is a past Artist in Residence. She said the location had something truly special.
"I worked within… Carss Bush Park itself to create a site-specific work that could not have been created anywhere else!"
Applications close on Friday 3 July.
