- Age-friendly Communities Connectivity Grants Program to support age-friendly communities opens today
- $220,000 will be available to local governments and not-for-profit organisations

The State Government's commitment to creating age-friendly communities is reaffirmed today with the launch of a $220,000 grants program.
'Age-friendly' is an internationally recognised best practice approach to creating communities that are inclusive and accessible for people of all ages.
Grants of up to $15,000 will be available through the Age-friendly Communities Connectivity Grants Program to local governments and not-for profit community organisations to undertake initiatives that build older people's connection to community.
The program will build on Western Australia's status as an international age-friendly leader and as the first Australian jurisdiction to become an Affiliate of the World Health Organisation Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities. WA is one of only 18 affiliates worldwide.
Funded by the Department of Communities and managed by Local Government Professionals WA, the grants program will support projects that challenge ageism, reduce loneliness, and improve older people's connections within their community.
The grants form part of the WA Seniors Strategy 2023-2033 Action Plan and will support the State Government to work collaboratively with local governments and not-for-profit organisations to implement age-friendly and seniors-related strategies.

"Western Australians are living longer and with our population ageing there is a greater need than ever to ensure people's environments are age-friendly so they can access the activities and services they require to be able to live fulfilling lives.
"An age-friendly approach supports this, and the Age-Friendly Communities Connectivity Grants Program will ensure a collaborative approach for local governments and not-for-profit organisations to implement a range of seniors-related strategies that promote positive ageing."
