The $23 million Bega Police Station in the South Coast Police District officially opened this morning (Wednesday 3 December 2025), providing a fit-for-purpose station to service the Far South Coast.
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley joined NSW Police Commissioner Malcolm Lanyon APM, Dr Michael Holland, Member for Bega, Southern Region Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar APM and South Coast Police District Commander Superintendent Darren Brand, to officially unveil the new station, built to support modern policing.
The two-storey, state-of-the-art facility includes a public front counter, custody area with two cells and three docks, detectives' area, task force room, command offices, exhibit storage, staff amenities, and meal room.
The new station will accommodate up to 38 staff, including general duties officers, detectives, Traffic and Highway Patrol and for the first time Forensic Evidence and Technical services officers.
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said this is a major investment by the Minns Labor Government in the safety of the Far South Coast Community and the hardworking police who serve here.

Commissioner Mal Lanyon was pleased to be able to visit the South Coast to take part in the official opening of the Bega Police Station – a facility which will serve the community for years to come.
"No matter which part of the state our police are serving, we need policing resources that are fit for purpose – fit to both serve the community but also to support our officers on the ground."
"Demands on policing have changed in the South Coast Police District and this new station with its modern facilities and technology will assist officers to better serve the community and respond to crime and emergency management incidents," Commissioner Lanyon said.
Southern Region Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar APM said the new station is a significant investment in community safety and will further enhance the servicing of the Bega Valley and surrounds.
"We know the South Coast is a popular holiday destination over the Christmas period, so it's great to have the officers working out of this new state-of-the art facility ahead of that busy period."
"The addition of the Forensic Evidence and Technical Services team and the laboratories is also a great addition, bolstering the district's ability to tackle complex crimes in Bega. We are already seeing their great work come to fruition, the team effectively assisted detectives as part of Strike Force Nakstone, which led to the arrest of the five people allegedly involved and placed them before the courts," Assistant Commissioner Cassar said.
Construction began on the police station in 2022, however the contractor entered voluntary administration in 2024. The works were re-tendered and new contractor Patterson Building Group was appointed in late 2024. Work re-commenced earlier this year, with works completed in September 2025.
