The Yulara Water Supply project has reached a major construction milestone, with 3 out of 4 stages now complete.
Jointly funded by the Albanese Government, through the National Water Grid Fund, the Northern Territory Government and Voyages Tourism Australia, the project is being delivered in collaboration with Power and Water Corporation and local businesses, and is making significant progress towards supporting economic development and social benefits in the region.
Works completed to date include:
- a new production bore and connection to a new rising main.
- construction of a new water treatment compound.
- construction of two 2 megalitre water storage tanks.
Stage 4 is now in planning and includes construction of a new water treatment plant which will support delivery of an additional 3 megalitres of safe, drinkable water each day to the Yulara township.
Once complete, the project will provide water security to tourism operators in the primary tourism location for Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and the wider Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara regions.
It's expected that the project will create more opportunities to support the expansion of tourist accommodation and increased confidence in private investment in the region. It also supports infrastructure uplift that aligns with the Northern Territory Government's Restoring the Territory Lifestyle and rebuilding the Economy policy pillars.
Project completion is expected in 2029.
