The Minns Labor Government has today unveiled the concept design for the new state-of-the art Bankstown Hospital, which outlines the proposed layout and key features of the $2 billion health facility.
This is the largest single capital works investment in a public hospital in the state's history.
Located in the heart of Bankstown's CBD, the new hospital will help meet the healthcare needs of South-West Sydney's fast-growing and diverse communities now and into the future.
The concept design outlines the planned locations of new and enhanced health services and facilities within the new multi-storey building, which will house acute health services including emergency, operating theatres and inpatient wards.
The Bankstown community is being encouraged to view and provide feedback on the design.
Community information sessions are being held in November 2025, providing staff and local residents with the opportunity to speak directly with the project team and share their feedback.
Community information sessions:
- Bankstown - Lidcombe Hospital main foyer Tuesday, 11 November 8am - 1pm
- Bankstown - Lidcombe Hospital main foyer Thursday, 13 November 8am - 1pm
- Bankstown Central shopping centre near Coles, Thursday 13 November 5pm - 7pm.
Staff and the local community can also view the designs and provide feedback online via the interactive project website.
The scope of the new Bankstown Hospital will be finalised through the planning process which is anticipated to include:
- emergency department
- operating theatres
- intensive care unit
- surgical and medical services
- women and children's health including maternity
- mental health
- ambulatory care
- cancer services
- aged health care services
- new multi-storey car park and on-ground parking
The early works planning application for the project is now on exhibition, marking a key step forward in the delivery of the new hospital. Early works will involve demolition of buildings to prepare the site for main works construction, and are expected to start in early 2026, subject to planning approval.
The Minns Labor Government is also investing $100 million to relocate the TAFE NSW Bankstown campus to enable construction of the new hospital. TAFE NSW will relocate most of its training and education services to the new Western Sydney University Tower, across the road from the existing Bankstown campus. This will ensure local staff and students can still access brand new facilities and bespoke teaching and learning spaces in the heart of the Bankstown CBD.
The 2025-26 NSW Budget includes $1.3 billion of additional funding to support the delivery of health facilities across Western Sydney including:
- an additional $700 million for the new Bankstown Hospital, bringing the total investment to $2 billion
- additional State funding of $90.0 million to provide the full range of maternity and birthing services as part of the new Rouse Hill Hospital, with a further $120 million announced by the Commonwealth Government
- $120 million for additional beds for Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals
- $492 million to develop a Statewide Pathology Hub on the Westmead campus
- $40.1 million to fit out level 13 of the new Paediatric Services Building at Westmead in partnership with the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation
- $22.3 million to establish a new paediatric hospice at the Children's Hospital at Westmead
Other projects in the Western Sydney region include upgrades at Nepean, Liverpool, Canterbury, Fairfield, Camden and Campbelltown hospitals.
The new Bankstown Hospital is being delivered by South Western Sydney Local Health District and Health Infrastructure.
