38th Universal Periodic Review of human rights UK statement on Denmark

The United Kingdom welcomes Denmark's long-standing commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights. We also commend Denmark's extensive contribution to human rights particularly efforts to promote and ensure media freedom.

The UK commends Denmark's action to change the legal definition of rape in accordance with the Istanbul Convention; securing legal justice for women; and we encourage Denmark to maintain efforts to secure women's rights and eliminate discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation.

We recommend Denmark:

  1. Adopt a renewed action plan to combat trafficking in persons from 2022, prioritising a victim-centred approach and prosecution of traffickers;

  2. Ensure an open, merit-based process when selecting national candidates for UN Treaty Body elections;

  3. Include all relevant ethnic and religious minorities in its forthcoming action plan on combatting racism and hate crimes.

Thank you.
