- Design and construction contract awarded to Bunbury builder, creating regional jobs
- Construction expected to start in mid-2026
- Funded through Royalties for Regions and Cook Government's Outdoor Adventure Tourism package, supporting economic diversification and the visitor economy in Collie and the South West
The Cook Government is supporting Collie's economic diversification and the South West's visitor economy, with a Bunbury builder awarded the contract to deliver a new $3 million kiosk at Wellington National Park.
Perkins (WA) Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to design and construct the new facility adjacent to Wellington Dam, supporting local jobs while improving infrastructure at one of the region's most popular tourism destinations.
The new facility will be built alongside the park's existing heritage-listed kiosk, allowing it to be repurposed.
A courtyard between the two buildings will create a vibrant visitor hub, offering a welcoming space for people to relax and enjoy refreshments before or after visiting the 'Reflections' mega-mural on the dam wall or exploring the many trails on offer within the park.
The current kiosk operators will continue operating throughout construction, eventually transitioning and expanding their business into the new building once it is complete.
Collie was officially accredited as a Trail Town by Trails WA in 2024, recognising its growing reputation as a premier outdoor adventure destination.
The extensive Wambenger Trails mountain bike trail network, in Wellington National Park, recently hosted the 2025 UCI Oceania and National Gravity Enduro mountain bike championships for the second year in a row.
Visitors can keep up to date with park access arrangements during construction via on-site signage and the park alerts website: alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au .
As stated by the Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn:
"Wellington National Park is one of the South West's most-loved natural assets, offering something for everyone to enjoy, and this new kiosk will help ensure visitors can enjoy the park's beauty with improved amenities.
"This project is part of the Cook Government's $165 million Outdoor Adventure Tourism package that is enhancing nature-based tourism by delivering new and upgraded boating facilities, campgrounds, trails, and tourist attractions across Western Australia."
As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:
"The Collie Adventure Trails Initiative demonstrates how investing in our regional communities is creating jobs and improving infrastructure.
"By investing in projects that support tourism and local businesses, the Cook Government is helping build a more vibrant and sustainable future for regional WA."
As stated by South West Minister Don Punch:
"Wellington National Park is one of the South West's great natural treasures, and projects like this support local jobs, strengthen small businesses, and bring more visitors to the region.
"It is a favourite for families and a perfect place to take the kids, with safe spaces to wander, picnic, and enjoy nature together.
"The new kiosk will be a welcome addition to the precinct, making family visits even easier and adding to the overall experience at Wellington National Park."
Comments attributed to Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns:
"This project delivers on the Cook Government's election commitment to invest in Collie's outdoor tourism future and back new opportunities for our community.
"The new kiosk will support local jobs, strengthen the visitor economy, and ensure Wellington National Park continues to be a place locals and visitors can enjoy for generations to come."
